Noted Triathlon and Cycling Coaches Heather Haviland and Phil Godkin to Lead and Expand the Milwaukee Cycling Center
The Milwaukee Cycling Center (MCC), Wisconsin’s premier cycling training facility and full-service endurance sports training destination, announces that noted triathlon and cycling coaches Heather Haviland and Phillip Godkin have assumed ownership and management of MCC.
MCC opened in 2014 and was founded by local cyclist and business owner Billy Jones. MCC quickly earned a reputation as a great place for bike racers to train in winter, but Billy lacked the time to get it to the level he had originally imagined. When asked why he sold MCC to Heather and Phil, Billy said, “I really wanted to make it a more well-known facility that served more than just bike racers, but in my hands, this was not possible. Last fall, Heather offered to help restructure a few things at MCC and the center quickly experienced the positive impact. It was the perfect time to hand the center off.”
In addition to MCC’s current offerings which include cycling classes, open rides, FTP testing, individual workouts, strength training, and a recovery center, Heather and Phil will also offer individual and group triathlon and cycling coaching services and provide cycling and triathlon teams the ability to rent out trainer time. Current teams already scheduled for the 2017-2018 season includes Velocause, Tri-Wisconsin, and the Concordia Women’s Triathlon team.
Heather is a former professional triathlete and certified USA Triathlon and USA Cycling coach. Additionally, Heather is a Certified Metabolic Efficiency Training Specialist. She has been coaching athletes since 2004. Most recently, Heather served as Director of Athlete Programs for Peak Performance Professionals in Brookfield, where she also organized and led cycling classes.
“I’m excited to turn my attention full time to the Milwaukee Cycling Center,” Heather said. “Whether it’s a beginner cyclist just learning how to shift gears and trying to improve their fitness, or an experienced endurance athlete training for a world championship, Phil and I welcome individuals of all levels and abilities to MCC.” Haviland will continue to offer her levels of coaching for triathlon, cycling and running along with a multitude of other programs to include a Tri-Swim coached program held at Milwaukee Lutheran High School.
Cycling has been a lifelong career for Phil, also a USA Cycling Coach. With more than 35 years in the industry, the former Cat 1 cyclist has served as store owner, manufactures sales representative, and Certified Skills Instructor. Phil is also a certified bike fit specialist for Wheel & Sprocket.
“Heather and I look forward to making the MCC the go to destination for endurance athletes and cyclists,” Phil added. “And with our coaching services and other planned programs, MCC can serve clients year-round.”
